Police Response Service (PRS) alarms are a specialised category of monitored burglar alarm systems designed to provide an additional layer of security for both residential and commercial properties. When a customer signs up for police response alongside their intruder alarm system, the monitoring centre is able to request direct police attendance whenever a genuine alarm activation occurs.
In the UK, these systems are governed by strict police and insurance requirements. A Level 1 Police Response is only granted to systems that meet all current standards and are installed and maintained by a UKAS-accredited electronic security company such as FHA Security. Level 1 status ensures that police will respond directly to confirmed alarm activations, rather than relying on keyholder notification alone.
Here’s how it works: once an alarm is triggered, the monitoring system informs the central Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). The professional ARC operators confirm the event in line with police URN (Unique Reference Number) requirements and then notify the county police in the nearest vicinity. If the system maintains its Level 1 status, the police will prioritise a direct response.
